What Is Hepatitis? How Is It Treated? Is It Curable?

It can be an acute or chronic infection. The incubation period for this virus is approximately 4-26 weeks. Acute vs. chronic hepatitis B The acute form of this disease may present with nausea, vomiting, jaundice and rarely will someone die from it. Occasionally, a rare, rapidly deteriorating condition known as fulminant hepatitis results from acute hepatitis B. Unlike acute hepatitis B, the chronic form of this disease may be asymptomatic and result in severe destruction of the liver over a period of several years. As with hepatitis A, a vaccination is available to prevent hepatitis B. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) Hepatitis C (known as Non-A hepatitis; Non-B hepatitis) is a contagious liver disease; consisting of inflammation of the liver caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV). The incubation for this infectious disease is approximately 6-10 weeks.

my response http://www.examiner.com/article/what-is-viral-hepatitis-how-is-it-treated-and-is-it-curable

Blood screening tests reduce the risk of hepatitis C

A: In the mid-1970s doctors recognized that most cases of hepatitis following blood transfusion were not due to either of the two then-known hepatitis viruses, hepatitis A and B. For a while, this complication of transfusions was designated non-A non-B hepatitis. A long search for the cause of this form of hepatitis culminated in 1988 with the identification of the hepatitis C virus and the subsequent development of laboratory tests to detect infections with the virus. Hepatitis C has caused about 80 percent of post-transfusion hepatitis, but the introduction in May 1990 of laboratory tests to screen donated blood for this virus has greatly reduced the risk to blood recipients. IV drug abuse is the source of one-third of the infections in this country: Studies have shown that 50 to 80 percent of IV drug abusers test positive for hepatitis C. The virus also can be transmitted by accidental needle pricks among medical personnel. The source of hepatitis C cannot be identified in nearly half the cases. Possibilities include sexual transmission, contact with blood on a razor or toothbrush, and even insect bites (since the hepatitis C virus belongs to the same family of viruses that are transmitted by insects). Endoscopy Overused In Heartburn Patients

In the procedure, a doctor inserts an endoscope, a thin flexible tube equipped with a camera and a light, through the mouth of a sedated patient and into the esophagus , stomach , and first portion of the small intestine. Despite a lack of supporting evidence, the authors write, doctors routinely use endoscopy to diagnose and manage gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD , which develops when stomach acid leaks into the esophagus. As many as 40% of U.S. adults report having some GERD symptoms -- namely heartburn and regurgitation. Looking for Barretts Doctors use endoscopy in GERD patients mainly to check for a condition called Barrett's esophagus , which affects about 10% of people whove had chronic heartburn for at least five years, says Nicholas Shaheen, MD, MPH, an author of the new advice paper. Barretts occurs when stomach acids damage the lining of the esophagus. GERD and Barrett's esophagus have been linked to an increased risk of a type of cancer called esophageal adenocarcinoma. Although the overall risk for the cancer is still low, esophageal adenocarcinoma, which used to represent only a small minority of cancers in the esophagus, has increased 500% since the 1970s. It now accounts for more than half the cases in the U.S., says Shaheen, a gastroenterologist who directs the Center for Esophageal Diseases and Swallowing at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. While smoking and drinking are stronger risk factors for another cancer type of the esophagus, the rise of esophageal adenocarcinoma is thought to be tied to the U.S.

his explanation http://www.webmd.com/heartburn-gerd/news/20121129/endoscopy-overused-heartburn

It is possible, just to use one example, that you are going to want to lose a specific number of inches or a set amount of weight. It is important to set yourself up for goals that are both long and short term as well as creating road maps for how to get to them. When it comes to your diet and workouts, write everything down so you know what to do. It is really easy to read something and then to forget about it later on when you don't have it handy. This way you'll be motivated to stick to your workouts and diet and you'll remember to do everything that's necessary to reach your goals. Plenty of different things will help you achieve six pack abs but these are a good start. Figure out how to work out in an interesting way so that you aren't dreading exercising. At the same time, find a diet that is compatible with your goals and body type. This will help you get the abs you want in a way that works in harmony with the rest of your life.

Both teenagers and adults can have problems with ADHD as well, but it is normally seen more often in children. The purpose of this article is to cover some of the best natural and alternative ADHD treatments that are currently available.

Herbal remedies are among the best alternative ADHD treatments. Although most herbs are safe, you should always do your research, as some herbs can have side effects just like conventional medicines do. Some herbs that have been very effective for treating ADHD include Siberian Ginseng, Ginkgo Biloba site and Gotu Kola. You may want to start restricting the length of time your child spends on the computer, cell phone, television, Xbox, or Wii. Your child is going to resist this change in the beginning, especially if he or she has been used to doing these things every day. One of the contributing factors to behavioral disorders such as ADHD and ADHD is, based on a number of studies, overexposure to electronic devices. For instance, children who play video games constantly tend to have a hard time concentrating when they are put in a calmer, more relaxed environment. And because these kids stay mostly indoors, they don't get much exercise.

Some ADHD sufferers have found that certain dietary supplements are effective in reducing their symptoms. One other amino acid is tyrosine and it works by boosting the essential neurotransmitter levels in the brain. Melatonin is a popular natural supplement that people with sleep problems often take. This can be useful in cases of ADHD because many people with this disorder also have trouble sleeping. A number of natural ADHD treatments are available and the ones mentioned in this article make up the proverbial tip of the iceberg. Keep in mind, however, that not all cases of ADHD are the same; there are slight differences so you will need to experiment to find the right one for you (or your loved one).
